2015 Ford Explorer
2015 Ford Explorer
The 2015 Ford Explorer looks good, has great road presence, decent capability and includes improvements over last year's model. What's not to like?
The changes we have seen in the Explorer line over the past few years are a good yardstick for how consumers are changing. We have shifted from rugged, boxy SUVs to sleek, modern crossovers with road manners and practicality as well as reliability and survivability.
The exterior of the 2015 Ford Explorer is lovely to behold. It's a modern crossover with clean lines, a plush look and no nonsense appeal. Shifting from chrome to black is always a good move in our book and nowhere is this more true than on the front end of the Explorer.
The rest of the exterior is simple in a good way. No complicated shapes or awkward body panels here. Just straight lines, simple, elegant design and a straightforwardness that is quite refreshing.
The inside is much the same too. Interior refinements over the past few years have kept the Explorer competitive while also keeping the price sensible. The 2015 Ford Explorer includes lots of soft touch materials, precise switches and controls, supportive seats and enough technology to keep you interested for a while.
Under that big hood is either a V6 or turbo four engine. The 3.5-liter V6 produces 290 hp and 255 lb-ft of torque while the 2.0-liter turbo four delivers 240 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque. The Explorer Sport uses a turbo version of the V6 to deliver 265 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. All use a six-speed automatic transmission.
The 2015 Ford Explorer has four trim levels, base, XLT, Limited and Sport. The base Explorer offers 18 inch alloy wheels, auto lighting, privacy glass, cruise control, power accessories, air conditioning, 4.2 inch screen, six-speaker audio and roof rails. The XLT adds bigger brakes, fog lights, parking sensors, leather steering wheel, keyless entry, Bluetooth connectivity, Ford Sync and satellite radio.
The Explorer Limited adds 20 inch alloy wheels, rear camera, climate control, leather interior, power driver's seat, remote engine start, keyless entry and ignition, heated front seats and driver's seat memory.
The Explorer Sport offers unique 20 inch alloy wheels, sports suspension, sports seats, unique interior and exterior trim and a range of sports-oriented extras.
The 2015 Ford Explorer is a fully featured crossover SUV that offers a lot for the money. Even the base model is well equipped and offers power, presence and practicality in equal measure.
