2015 Ford Expedition
2015 Ford Expedition
The 2015 Ford Expedition is a full-size SUV with all the trimmings. For this model year it receives a much improved interior, new engines, new dampers and design tweaks all round. A strong contender for the SUV crown just became a little stronger.
The competition has upped their game so Ford had to do the same. Considering the Expedition was pretty strong anyway, a better range of stronger and more frugal engines and a better cabin should be enough to tempt buyers.
The 2015 Ford Expedition retains its solid exterior with only a few cosmetic changes on the outside. It's a solid, reassuring bulk that shouts capability and reliability. It's a design that has remained true to the Expedition ethos too rather than adopting Ford's new design philosophy of soft-road friendliness.
Inside, improvements abound. The big change is the inclusion of MyFord Touch in the center stack with an 8 inch touchscreen. Two smaller screens have been inserted into the instrument panel to show driver information too. The rest of the center stack has been tidied and simplified like many other Ford models to make for an excellent, ergonomic driving experience.
The main change with the 2015 Ford Expedition is under the hood. This model sees a twin turbo 3.5-liter V6 engine good for 365 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque. We expect the existing 5.4-liter V8 to remain. It delivers 430 hp, although it doesn't get quite the gas mileage of the V6.
There has been very little released so far about trim levels so we aren't able to do our usual trim level roundup about now. We do expect the same 2015 Ford Expedition XL, XLT, Limited and King Ranch trims, but until Ford release any information about what we can expect, any listing here would be pure speculation.
We do expect the two chassis lengths to remain for the 2015 Ford Expedition though. The Expedition and the Expedition EL. The EL is one of the largest SUVs around and that's too much of a temptation for many buyers so we expect Ford to retain that cache. Given the stronger engine, this extra length should be no trouble at all to manage.
The 2015 Ford Expedition is still based on the Ford F-150, so is still very much a known quantity. As the F-150 received new suspension, the Expedition received new dampers to improve the ride. That rounds off the improvements for this model year. The SUV is now more refined inside, more frugal on the road and smoother with it. All the right changes in all the right paces.
