The 2014 Ford Focus is another example of why Ford's single global platform model works. This is another European-designed car that elevates quality, control and features to a level North America simply isn't used to in a non-premium car.
Even though the Focus is over a decade old, this new version which was introduced in 2012, is something special. It has revitalized an ageing platform and brought it bang up to date and back to the front of the compact pack.
Available as a sedan or hatchback, the 2014 Ford Focus is all class. The new exterior is modern, punchy and original. The whole car seems to angle down at the front, the large grilles seem to pull the front down onto the road.
The simple lines are elegant and very effective, proving that complicated panels aren't the only way to build a premium car. The side sills are a nice touch and the rear end is most attractive in hatchback guise.
The interior of the 2014 Ford Focus continues the quality theme. The cabin is spacious, well finished, uses quality materials and echoes the European characteristics of the model. Considering the price, this is a lot of car for the money.
The dashboard is well laid out, the steering wheel comfortable, the centre stack looks good and works well and the shifter is the perfect distance from the driving position. There is enough head and legroom for four adult passengers and plenty of cargo space in the back.
Under the Hood
Under the hood is a 2.0-liter four cylinder engine that delivers 160 hp and 146 lb-ft of torque. It sends power to the front wheels via a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. There is also an electric Focus that uses a 107 kW electric motor and a single-speed transmission.
There are three trims and two body styles available with the 2014 Ford Focus. Hatch, sedan, S, SE and Titanium. The Focus S is sedan only and comes with steel wheels, keyless entry, air conditioning, power windows, central locking and CD audio.
Upgrade to a Focus SE and get the hatch option, alloy wheels, automatic lights, cruise control, Bluetooth connectivity, Ford Sync and a better stereo. The Titanium adds navigation, leather interior, satellite radio, six-speakers, climate control, different trim, parking sensors, remote start and a reversing camera.
All this combines to make a sharp handling compact car that is as comfortable in the city as it is on the highway. It's fun to drive, well-built and a nice place to be. Check it out at Northway Ford Lincoln today!
