New 2014 Ford Explorer Trim Levels
2014 Ford Explorer Review
For Sale @ Northway Ford Brantford (between Cambridge & Hamilton)
The Ford Explorer is one of Ford's best-selling vehicles and has been for years. Even when buyers were beginning to look for more fuel-efficient cars, the Explorer retained appeal. However, it needed to catch up with advances in technology, fuel efficiency and refinement. We're glad to say it has, in spades!
New for 2014 is a Sport trim, new power steering and larger brakes.
The 2014 Ford Explorer still looks every bit an SUV but now in a more modern guise. It's a good looking car with curb appeal and real road presence. The more subtle grille has been a real hit with buyers, so it has been retained this year. As has the all of the exterior styling.
Inside, the Explorer has lots of interior space as you would expect from a vehicle of this class. It also has lots of soft touch materials, a great driving position, lots of buttons to push and a decent center stack with touchscreen. Two LCD screens also feature inside the instrument cluster.
There are three rows in the Explorer offering comfortable seating for seven. Even full of people, there is plenty of space for cargo in the back. The third row is especially suitable for the kids, but the first two rows can seat adults in comfort.
Under the hood are two engine options. The standard gasoline 3.5-liter V6 produces 290 hp and 255 lb-ft of torque. Optional is a 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbocharged four that delivers 237 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque. Both use Ford's six-speed transmission to send power to the front wheels. All-wheel drive is an option.
The 2014 Ford Explorer is available in four trims, base, XLT, Limited and Sport. The base Explorer offers the V6 engine, 17 inch steel wheels, auto lighting, rear privacy glass, bling spot mirrors, power accessories, cruise control, air conditioning, power driver's seat and a six-speaker audio system.
The XLT adds 18 inch alloys, fog lights, rear parking sensors, leather steering wheel, keyless entry, Ford SYNC and satellite radio. The Limited adds 20 inch alloys, heated seats, remote entry and engine start and 12 speaker Sony audio with HD radio.
The new Explorer Sport has original 20 inch alloy wheels, sports suspension, sports seats in front, unique interior and exterior trim, adjustable steering wheel and pedals, memory driver's seat and a different leather interior.
The 2014 Ford Explorer is an SUV brought right up to date. It's modern and capable yet has great road manners and gets decent gas mileage. With plenty of space and technology on the inside, there's no reason not to try it if you're after a quality SUV.
