The pros and cons of electric cars ownership in Ohsweken in 2022

Canadian drivers are facing some very profound challenges in 2022. With gas prices well over two dollars per litre, you are probably thinking about switching to a hybrid or all-electric.

There are some serious considerations you will need to take into consideration before you can make a final decision. Which is why our Ohsweken auto loans team are here to help.

Hybrid or all-electric

Carmakers have transitioned from the classic internal combustion engine (ICE) to hybrids and first-generation all-electric vehicles.

In order to determine whether a hybrid or all-electric is the right choice for you, there is a checklist of questions you will need to run through.

  • Where are you located in Canada? If you are living in a rural area of Canada that experiences harsh winters like Northern Ontario; you may face challenges owning an EV. The cold will have an impact on the driving range of your EV. Also, since you are living in a rural area, there may be limited access to charging stations. There is a tremendous effort in place to roll out as many charging stations as possible, but it will take some time.
  • How many kilometers are you averaging in a week/month? Canada is a great country to live in, but you need to drive great distances just to get to work and lead a normal life; if you do a lot of driving, you will need an EV with an extended range so you can stretch the time between charging.
  • Does your home have a modern electrical system? You may need to upgrade your electrical panel to a 200 amp+ to help facilitate rapid charging. This is money well spent, and you should be able to get a rebate from the Government for upgrading your panel; just be sure to only have a licensed electrician do the work.
  • The only scenario where owning a hybrid makes more sense than an EV is if you are living in areas of Canada where there is no charging infrastructure in place; otherwise the EV is by far the best option.

Not all EV makers are created equal

All of the major and minor carmakers are introducing their respective line of all-electric vehicles. This is truly an exciting time to be a driver in Canada.

While there are many EVs to choose from, we can help you narrow down the list of candidates.

When it comes to picking an EV, go with a carmaker that has a well-established track record like Ford. Ford has been making cars for over 100 years, they have produced iconic vehicles like the Mustang, and the Ford F150 pickup, so you know their vehicles are top-notch.

You should not just take our word for it, though; head over to your local Ford dealership and test drive their full line of EVs.

EVs provide an excellent driving experience, plus you will be smiling each time you pass by a gas station and don’t have to pay $2+ a liter for fuel.

Even if you are facing credit challenges, head over to the local Ford dealership today; it will be the best decision you made this week.
