Selling your Old Car to a Dealership in Woodstock?

Selling your Old Car to a Dealership in Woodstock?

There’s a lot to recommend selling your car to a dealership. It’s quick, easy and less risky than private sales. Dealerships also pay higher prices than ever before and the gap between what a dealer will pay and a private sale is narrower than ever.

But how does it all work? We asked our Woodstock auto loans team to explain how selling a car to a dealership works.

Selling your old car

Selling your old car to a dealership is about as easy as it gets. It uses the same principles of any sale, but avoids some of the more annoying aspects.

No need to prepare the ad, no need to take dozens of pictures, answer silly questions or queries about the car, handle vehicle inspections or test drives.

Those reasons alone make it worth selling to a dealership!

The process works a little like this:

Prepare the car

Prepare your car in the same way you would for any sale. Clean it up, check for dents and scratches, repair anything obvious that needs repair, check tires, wipers, all bulbs and the interior.

Make the car look as good as you can without spending too much money. The better it looks, the higher the potential value.

Essentially, the more you can do to make the car look ready for the dealer to sell, the more you’ll get.

Dealerships have to spend time and money reconditioning a car ready to resell. If you can save them time and money doing that, they can afford to pay you a little more.

While you prepare your car, check Carfax, Kelley Blue Book and Auto Trader to see average values for the same year, make, model and trim of car. This will give you an idea of the price you can expect.

Dealerships cannot afford to pay the same as you would get privately but we can get close!

Get the car appraised

Make an appointment with the dealership to have the car appraised. Some dealers can handle passers-by but we find it better to work on appointment as we’ll definitely have the people on hand to help.

The appraiser will check over the car, take it for a quick test drive and come up with a valuation. You can either accept the valuation or negotiate.

Once agreed, we’ll draw up the paperwork and buy the car. You’ll get paid into your bank right away.

Selling to a dealer

Selling your old car to a dealership isn’t the only way to get rid of your old car but it’s the most convenient. It’s a low effort, low risk way to make space and money for a new car or for something else.

Considering the time, effort and hassle it saves and the higher prices we pay now, we think it’s the best way to sell a car. Try us and see for yourself!
