Should you Buy an Electric Car in Kitchener?

Should you Buy an Electric Car in Kitchener?

While the pandemic has been on the media 24/7 for what seems forever, another issue that many people are concerned about is climate change.

Whether you believe that human beings are altering the climate or not, we can all agree that weather patterns are changing and burning fossil fuels is taking a toll on the environment.

A growing number of Canadians compromised primarily of millennials and their younger age cohort are electing to buy an electric car instead of the conventional cars their parents drive.

EV’s are great but there is still room for improvement

The Toyota Prius was the first mainstream hybrid that showed us the potential of driving a hybrid car. It did not use much gas inside the city and would get great fuel economy on the highway.

One of the challenges associated with hybrid vehicles is the complexity of the systems. When they work properly then everything is great but over time the cost of maintaining them can become very costly.

While hybrid vehicles are more fuel-efficient, there is a push to develop vehicles that are zero-emission and run solely on electricity.  There is a considerable amount of debate about how environmentally friendly is having an EV if the electricity used to power it is produced from fossil fuels. We will table that argument for a future discussion because it is not something the average consumer like you or me can resolve.

Elon Musk and his company Tesla are at the forefront when it comes to developing all-electric cars but they are not the only firm out there, China is going to be introducing its own low-cost EV’s to compete with Tesla.

While Tesla has a strong brand, the Chinese makers are hoping they can attract US and Canadian drivers with their low-cost vehicles. This approach worked for other carmakers like Toyota, Hyundai, and even Kia with conventional vehicles. Over time, these vehicles became powerhouses and the Chinese makers are poised to also gain market share.

Selecting the right EV for you

We touched on some of the major EV makers but even the big 3 car makers in North America have rolled out their EVs like the Chevy Bolt.

You could read reviews posted by experts on which EV is the best, but the only way to know which one is the right one for you is to test drive it.

Start by contacting your local Kitchener dealership and booking a test drive. There is no cost and you will be amazed by how much torque these all-electric cars can deliver.

Something that will make you happy is the cost of operating these vehicles which is quite low when compared to gasoline. While the cost to operate the car is low, the initial upfront cost is comparable to a gas-powered car. You will need to get financing in place to make the purchase a reality.

The dealership will be able to help you get financing in place, just make sure your credit score is 650 or higher. If your credit score is not in that range, don’t worry the dealership will still be able to help but you may need to pay a higher interest rate.
