2015 Chevrolet Silverado versus 2015 Ford F150 Brantford in Brant County
The truck market is one of the most competitive there is. That's especially true in North America, as despite everything, we still love our trucks. So choosing our next purchase is an important one. Not only is it a lot of money, it's also a decision that can affect our quality of life and ability to work.
The Ford F150 and Chevrolet Silverado are both best sellers. Both compete on relatively equal ground and both offer comparable vehicles for the money. That isn't to marginalize the GMC Sierra or Ram trucks, it's just how it is.
So in a head to head battle, which would you choose? The 2015 Ford F150 or 2015 Chevrolet Silverado? It's actually tougher to answer that question than you might think as Ford have still yet to release final details on the F150.
Ford engines are improving all the time, we know that. We also know that Ford are sticking to gasoline for the 2015 Ford F150 and not venturing into diesel. That may be a mistake given how both Ram and Chevy are offering diesel variants of their trucks. The Duramax 6.6L Turbo-Diesel V8 in the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado might just have the edge in pulling power here.
However, gas has served us well for years and Ford engines are tough, reliable and offer decent performance for the money.
For us, Ford wins by a mile in the styling category. While both the 2015 Ford F150 and the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado are both slab sided, chrome laden chunks of sheet metal, the modern looking Ford has the edge. With a huge variety of additional styling options on offer too, it wins the styling challenge hands down.
The interiors of the 2015 Ford F150 and 2015 Chevrolet Silverado are very close in terms of quality, space and fit. With technology improvements from both automakers, better materials, more sound deadening and more comfort across the board, it's hard to choose between the two.
Performance and capability figures for the 2015 Ford F150 haven't been released yet so it's difficult to compare the two. Taking the 2014 model and using it as reference is as close as we're going to get.
There's no doubt that the aluminum body will improve gas mileage, but it has yet to prove itself "Ford tough." Both trucks are rear wheel drive, both have great transmissions, strong engines, plenty of cargo space and towing capability. However, with Ford's bevy of improved engines, we think they will be very hard to beat.
