The 2014 Ford Expedition is a proper old-school SUV. It's big, heavy, capable and does everything you ask of it without complaint. In other words, it's everything you want from a car.
The 2014 Ford Expedition is Ford's second largest SUV and one of its most successful. Introduced seven years ago, the Expedition has come a long way but it still true to its SUV roots. It's a body on frame build that can carry people, haul cargo, tow and go off-road. What more could you need?
Based on the F-150, the Expedition looks reassuringly solid. The big front end has lots of chrome, big headlights, molded bumpers and a high ground clearance. The sides are relatively flat while roof rails adorn the equally flat rood. At the back, a single liftgate completes the look.
The design is simple and unfussy and complements the no-nonsense attitude of this SUV. Despite that, it's still nice to look at and has a real presence on the driveway or on the road.
Inside is much the same. Being so big, passenger and cargo space certainly isn't at a premium. The 2014 Ford Expedition can comfortably seat eight or carry 108 cu. ft. of cargo. It can also tow up to 9,200 pounds too.
The finishing is excellent, materials quality top-notch and space is plentiful. The second and third rows fold down, move forward and recline. Opting for captain's chairs in the second row reduces passenger count to seven, but offers a more comfortable experience.
A big SUV needs a big motor to do it justice. In the 2014 Ford Expedition, there's a 5.4-liter V8 engine that produces 310 hp and 365 lb-ft of torque. It sends the power to the rear or all wheels via a capable six speed automatic transmission.
There are three trim levels for the 2014 Ford Expedition, XLT, Limited and King Ranch. The XLT offers 18 inch alloys, automatic lighting, fog lights, rear parking sensors, heated mirrors, keyless entry, cruise control, A/C, power driver's seat, Ford Sync and a six-speaker audio system.
The Limited adds front parking sensors, folding mirrors, tow package, heated and cooled front seats, heated second row seats, wood trim and leather interior. The King Ranch adds two-tone paint, 20 inch alloys, adjustable rear suspension, second row captain's chairs and rear video entertainment.
The 2014 Ford Expedition offers a lot of car for the money. It's big, bold, fully loaded and very capable. It's ideal for the active family or for work and is capable of withstanding whatever you throw at it.
